How Does it Work?
Erasmus+ KA1 (Key Action 1) is the most funded action in the Erasmus+ program and offers thousands of individuals a unique opportunity for international mobilities every year.
If you are part of an organisation working in the field of education and training, if you work in a school, an NGO, an association or a Volkshochschule (VHS), you can apply for Erasmus+ funding to participate in an inspiring experience abroad.
KA1 Opportunities for Schools
Teachers and all staff responsible for school education in primary school, secondary schools and higher education, vocational education and training, adult education schools and youth work associations can apply for funding to carry out mobility projects to provide training and teaching opportunities for staff and learners.
Invited Expert Programme
The Erasmus+ KA1 programme also supports a mobility activity called Invited Expert. In the same KA1 Application where your school can ask for funds to send their teachers abroad, you can also invite experts from another Erasmus+ Programme country. This programme is particularly useful as it allows all your teachers to take part in a training course directly at your school. Also the invited expert can work with teachers and students on a special project – e.g. a film project.
So who is an expert? According to the Erasmus Programme Guide experts are “trainers, teachers, policy experts or other qualified professionals from abroad who can help improve the teaching, training and learning at the receiving organization.”
Erasmus+ Accreditation & Short-term applications
There are two different procedures through which you can access the Erasmus KA1 Programme: the accreditation and the short-term project application.
Erasmus+ Accreditation
In order to get the grant continuously for the entire duration of the new Erasmus+ Programme (2021-2027), each school can apply for Erasmus+ accreditation. Once accredited, your school will have access to mobility funds for the following 5 years, by presenting a budget request in line with the school development plan outlined in the Accreditation application.
However, if your school didn’t manage to get accredited (the deadline is usually in October), you still have other opportunities to participate in the Programme. Your school can:
- apply for short-term projects that last from 6 to 18 months and can include up to 30 participants in mobility;
- join a consortium that has already been accredited;
- act as a hosting organization for another accredited foreign school.
Institutions from Erasmus+ programme countries can submit a mobility project application to the National Agency in their country!
Costs covered by KA1 funding
- Organizational support – A lump sum of 100€ to cover the administrative and management costs of organizing a mobility (preparation, monitoring, support, recognition of learning outcomes, etc.).
- Travel costs – A lump sum depending on the distance between your city and the course location. The calculation is done by using the official Erasmus+ distance calculator, and on the means of transport.
- Individual support – A lump sum to cover the allowance per day of activity per participant.
- Training courses – A lump sum of 80€ per participant per day to cover the course fee.
