Cross-Over: Practical media literacy for the classrooms of tomorrow – Praktische Medienkompetenz für den Unterricht von morgen

The course is aimed at teachers, educators and NGO staff who wish to integrate modern storytelling methods into their teaching. The course combines interdisciplinary cross-disciplinary approaches with practical workshops on digital storytelling, audio production, visual communication and AI tools. Participants acquire new skills every day through hands-on activities – from creating podcasts and mobile video production to applying the 8Cs of the 21st century. Each day has its own theme, combining theory with practical application and concluding with specific projects that can be used directly in their own lessons. The course promotes both teachers’ digital media literacy and innovative pedagogical approaches for a contemporary education.

The course objectives are:

• Developing cross-disciplinary skills: Participants learn to design cross-curricular storytelling projects and integrate interdisciplinary learning approaches into their teaching.
• Building digital storytelling skills: Acquiring practical skills in creating multimedia stories using various digital tools and platforms.
• Mastering audio production: Developing skills in podcast production, audio editing and the educational use of audio media in the classroom.
• Strengthening visual communication: Learning the basics of photography and videography for effective visual storytelling using mobile devices.
• Promoting 21st-century skills: Gaining an in-depth understanding of Sir Ken Robinson’s 8Cs and their implementation in the classroom.
• Developing AI literacy: Building a fundamental understanding of AI technologies and learning the ethical use of AI tools in education.
• Expanding media literacy: Strengthening critical media literacy and educating pupils to become responsible digital citizens.

About the instructor

He has over 30 years’ experience in the field of audiovisual media. Among other things, he has worked for the Kinemathek Karlsruhe and the CINEVIDEO film festival, and has been active as a journalist, radio presenter, musician, composer, filmmaker and prop master on numerous TV and film productions. This was followed by film education projects in collaboration with schools, social institutions, youth centres and independent organisations in southern Germany. In 2015, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal. Since then, he has been leading teacher training courses there as part of Erasmus+ KA1. As an Erasmus+ expert, he has led projects in Austria, Greece and La Réunion in recent years.education.

Der Kurs richtet sich an Lehrkräfte und Mitarbeiter von NGOs, die moderne Storytelling-Methoden in ihren Unterricht integrieren möchten. Der Kurs kombiniert interdisziplinäre Cross-Over-Ansätze mit praktischen Workshops zu digitalem Geschichtenerzählen, Audio-Produktion, visueller Kommunikation und KI-Tools. Teilnehmer lernen täglich neue Kompetenzen durch praktische Aktivitäten – vom Podcast-Erstellen über mobile Videoproduktion bis hin zur Anwendung der 8Cs des 21. Jahrhunderts – kennen. Jeder Tag hat eine eigenes Thema, er verbindet Theorie mit praktischer Umsetzung und schließt mit konkreten Projekten ab, die direkt im eigenen Unterricht verwendet werden können. Der Kurs fördert sowohl die digitale Medienkompetenz der Lehrkräfte als auch innovative pädagogische Ansätze für eine zeitgemäße Bildung.

Die Kursziele sind:

• Cross-Over-Kompetenzen entwickeln: Teilnehmer lernen fächerübergreifende Storytelling-Projekte zu konzipieren und interdisziplinäre Lernansätze in ihren Unterricht zu integrieren.
• Digitale Storytelling-Fähigkeiten aufbauen: Erwerb praktischer Fertigkeiten in der Erstellung multimedialer Geschichten mit verschiedenen digitalen Tools und Plattformen.
• Audio-Produktion beherrschen: Entwicklung von Kompetenzen in Podcast-Produktion, Audiobearbeitung und der pädagogischen Nutzung von Hörmedien im Unterricht.
• Visuelle Kommunikation stärken: Erlernen fotografischer und videografischer Grundlagen für effektives visuelles Storytelling mit mobilen Geräten.
• 21st Century Skills fördern: Vertieftes Verständnis der 8Cs nach Sir Ken Robinson und deren Umsetzung im Unterricht.
• KI-Literacy entwickeln: Grundlegendes Verständnis für KI-Technologien aufbauen und ethischen Umgang mit KI-Tools im Bildungsbereich erlernen.
• Medienkompetenz ausbauen: Kritische Medienkompetenz stärken und Schüler zu verantwortungsvollen digitalen Bürgern erziehen.

Über den Kursleiter

Er blickt auf eine mehr als 30-jährige Tätigkeit im Bereich der audiovisuellen Medien zurück. Er arbeitete u.a. für die Kinemathek Karlsruhe, das Filmfestival CINEVIDEO, war tätig als Journalist, Radiomoderator, Musiker, Komponist, Filmemacher und Requisiteur bei zahlreichen TV- und Filmproduktionen. Im Jahr 2015 zog er nach Lissabon, Portugal. Seitdem leitet er dort Lehrerfortbildungen im Rahmen von Erasmus+ KA1. Als Erasmus+ Experte leitete er in den letzten Jahren Projekte in Österreich, Griechenland und La Réunion.
