MoJo – Audio, Photo and Video Storytelling with your Mobile

MoJo is digital storytelling where the main device used creating content is a smartphone.

The advantage of the smartphone is that it is – in combination with a variety of apps – cheaper smaller, lighter and easier to use than traditional broadcast journalism equipment and software. Photos, videos, documentaries, audio, podcasts, graphics and live coverage can be created and edited on the run and uploaded online, e.g. to social platforms, direct from the device.

The objective of this course is to introduce educators, teachers, journalists, and NGO staff to the world of mobile multimedia storytelling. 

Whether you,

• as an educator and teacher who will soon be leading journalism projects at your school;
• as a journalist until now mostly have been working in print media and now wanna switch; 
• as a staff member of an NGO, want to document your projects and your work or want to help others tell their own stories: Our daily exercises and tasks will help you develop confidence in your abilities to accomplish any task imaginable.

We will talk about: 

• what you need to get started, 
• how to best use your smartphone for photographing, filming, editing and recording audio
• how to plan and write audio stories,
• how to best capture location audio and to do audio reporting,
• how to go live with your smartphone,
• the differences between storytelling for horizontal & vertical platforms,
• how to use the internet for investigative journalism,
• data journalism and community-driven journalism,
• tools that help you to discover fake news and fact checking,
• … and more.

About your course instructor

He looks back on more than 30 years of work in the field of audiovisual media. He worked for the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, the film festival CINEVIDEO, became a journalist, a radio presenter, worked as a musician, composer, filmmaker and prop master on numerous TV and film productions. This was followed by film education projects in cooperation with schools, social institutions, youth centres and independent organisations in southern Germany. In 2015, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal. Since then, he has been leading teacher training courses within the framework of Erasmus+ KA1. As an Erasmus+ expert, he has led projects in Austria, Greece and La Réunion in recent years.

MoJo ist digitales Storytelling, bei dem das Hauptgerät für die Erstellung von Inhalten ein Smartphone ist.

Der Vorteil des Smartphones besteht darin, dass es – in Kombination mit einer Vielzahl von Apps – billiger, kleiner, leichter und einfacher zu bedienen ist als die traditionelle Ausrüstung im Audio-, Video- und Foto-Journalismus. Die mediale Berichterstattung nit einem Smartphone kann unterwegs erstellt, bearbeitet und direkt vom Gerät aus online hochgeladen werden, z. B. auf soziale Plattformen.

Ziel dieses Kurses ist es Lehrer, Erzieher, Journalisten und NGO-Mitarbeiter in die Welt des mobilen multimedialen Geschichtenerzählens einzuführen.

Ob sie,

• als Lehrkraft bald Projekte im Bereich Journalismus an ihrer Schule leiten werden;
• als Journalist bisher hauptsächlich in Printmedien gearbeitet haben und nun wechseln wollen;
• als Mitarbeiter einer NGO Ihre Projekte und Ihre Arbeit dokumentieren oder anderen helfen wollen, ihre eigenen Geschichten zu erzählen: Unsere täglichen Übungen und Aufgaben werden Ihnen helfen, Vertrauen in Ihre Fähigkeiten zu entwickeln, um jede Aufgabe zu bewältigen.

Wir werden sprechen über:

• was sie für den Einstieg brauchen,
• wie man sein Smartphone am besten zum Fotografieren, Filmen, Schneiden und Aufnehmen von Audio verwendet
• wie man Hörgeschichten plant und schreibt, wie man am besten Audio-Reportagen macht,
• wie sie mit Ihrem Smartphone live gehen,
• die Unterschiede zwischen dem Geschichtenerzählen für horizontale und vertikale Plattformen,
• wie man das Internet für investigativen Journalismus nutzen kann,
• Datenjournalismus und Community-gesteuerten Journalismus,
• Tools, die ihnen helfen, Fake News zu entdecken und Fakten zu überprüfen,
• … und mehr.

Über den Kursleiter

Er blickt auf eine mehr als 30-jährige Tätigkeit im Bereich der audiovisuellen Medien zurück. Er arbeitete u.a. für die Kinemathek Karlsruhe, das Filmfestival CINEVIDEO, war tätig als Journalist, Radiomoderator, Musiker, Komponist, Filmemacher und Requisiteur bei zahlreichen TV- und Filmproduktionen. Es folgten filmpädagogische Projekte in Zusammenarbeit mit Schulen, sozialen Einrichtungen, Jugendzentren und freien Trägern im süddeutschen Raum. Im Jahr 2015 zog er nach Lissabon, Portugal. Seitdem leitet er dort Lehrerfortbildungen im Rahmen von Erasmus+ KA1. Als Erasmus+ Experte leitete er in den letzten Jahren Projekte in Österreich, Griechenland und La Réunion.

Wenn sie als Gruppe (mindestens 2 Teilnehmer) teilnehmen möchten und der oben genannte Zeitplan für sie nicht passt, können Sie uns gerne einen günstigeren Termin vorschlagen, damit wir einen zusätzlichen Kurs einrichten können!

Kurssprachen sind Englisch oder Deutsch.
