From 26.02-01.03 I was invited as an expert by the secondary school (Mittelschule) St. Lambrecht (Styria) in Austria as part of Erasmus+. The principal and another teacher had attended my Erasmus+ KA1 Digital Storytelling course in Lisbon two years earlier. So we already knew each other.
For me, who normally only deal with adults, teachers and NGO employees in my Erasmus+ teacher training courses, the contact and work with the +50 students and the teaching staff (12 teachers) was a completely new experience. And as always, I learned a lot during the five days and got lots of new ideas that will certainly be incorporated into my future courses.
The week began with storytelling games and exercises using index cards – it doesn’t always have to be digital!
Right at the beginning, a making-of of the whole week was planned, organised by the students themselves. I had brought the necessary tools with me and two students (in rotation) took turns to be responsible for continuous 45-minute time slots.
Our main tool was Adobe CC Express. The students used it to create infographics (in German and English), explainer videos, websites about the EU (keyword scrollytelling) and the design of a multi-page comic. The total of eight pages plus title page were then printed out and put together in the form of a leporello. All the tasks were completed either individually, in pairs or in groups (4-5 pupils each).
On the last day there was a public presentation, the parents were invited, two students guided through the program, interviewing me in between about the individual tasks.
My accommodation was in St. Lambrecht Abbey – it was spectacular! I will definitely remember the monastery and the guided tour by Abbot Plank himself.
